My first Brandon Sanderson book. It has been a while since I wanted to read one of his books. He’s so loved by the reading community that I was curious to understand why. Although, he’s a fantasy author. And if you don’t know by now, fantasy is not my cup of tea. He has at least one sci-fi series, but I haven’t found the will to try it out. And then, the Hardest Reading Challenge You’ve Ever Done comes into my life. It has been a hot minute since I’ve talked about it. I don’t know if you’ve heard. But one of the prompts is to read a crowdfunded book. And this was the final push to buy a Brandon Sanderson book. Title: Tress of the Emerald Sea Author: Brandon Sanderson Series: The Cosmere – standalone Publication year: 2023 Length: 12 hours 27 minutes Genre: Fantasy, Adventure Pace: Medium Story …

I know I’m late to the party, but… Good Omens… Oh my… Good Omens. Is. Such. A. Good. Show! I know everyone already say this, but I never truly believed it until I saw it for myself. So if this post finds its way to probably the only person that hasn’t seen it yet, then my job here is done! Lately, I’ve been reviewing a lot of books here on the blog because it’s the type of content I consume the most. But, when I’m not reading or re-watching a series for the 1000th time, I’ll watch something new. And sometimes, I struck gold! And Good Omens is better than gold, so diamonds? – I don’t care much for precious stones or metals. So, Good Omens is better than… an Oreo cupcake with raspberry filling. Yes, that’s the one! The story starts with Crowley, a demon, and Aziraphale, an angel, …

As the name suggests, this book has everything to be a terrifying read during the time we are living in. Although it’s not. Despite the name, Contagion by Teri Terry has little to no similarities to real life – and I’m glad it doesn’t, or the author can predict the future! This piece of light fantasy is highly addictive and has infected me to read the rest of the series – now I see where the name comes from! Author: Teri Terry Pages: 480 Genre: Fantasy, YA, Mystery, Apocalyptic Publication: 2017 Synopsis: Callie is missing. Her brother Kai is losing hope of ever seeing her again. Then he meets Shay, a girl who saw Callie the day she disappeared, and his hope is reignited. Their search leads them to the heart of a terrifying epidemic that is raging through the country. Can Kai and Shay escape death and find Callie? …

Science-fiction and fantasy. Two genres often presented together. Although they couldn’t be more different from each other. And I’m the one to know that. I love one and dislike the other. I never hide it from anyone. And whenever there’s an opportunity, I like to point out that I enjoy keeping a harsh distinction between sci-fi and fantasy. But why do I find them so different? After all, what defines science fiction? Sci-fi, for short, is a wide genre of speculative fiction based on scientific or technological principles. The story can be set in our world or in a galaxy far far away. What makes it sci-fi is the existence of elements explained through laws of physics, even if they don’t exist today. For example, Interstellar. The movie is based around the idea of wormholes and travels between the space and time continuum. So far, that’s only a theory. There …

Neverworld Wake is the best sheet (of paper) I read last year! I’m not going to bit around the bush with this one. I thought it was average, surprised me in the end, changed my whole perspective of the book. And that’s it! And that’s why I loved it so much. Still not convinced? Then, let me try to change your mind. Author: Marisha Pessl Pages: 324 Genre: YA, Mystery, Fantasy Synopsis: Five friends – the beautiful elite at their exclusive prep school – reunite a year after graduation. After a night out, they narrowly avoid a collision with a car on a deserted road. Back at the mansion belonging to one of the girls, a storm rages and a mysterious man knocks on the door, announcing something world-shattering. The friends must make a choice: one of them will live, and the rest will die. And the decision must be …

April is just around the corner, which means the Magical Readathon is about to start. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, the Magical Readathon is run by G from the YouTube channel BookRoast during the entire month of April. The marathon is themed around the O.W.L.s (Ordinary Wizarding Level) and N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests) held at Hogwarts. There is a Wizarding Career Guide with all the different careers available, and each one has different classes that you need to take to graduate. And this year, it was added a list of courses and seminars for extra credit. Despite everything about this readathon being related to Harry Potter, it’s possible to read any genre. For a muggle like me, this is the cherry on top of the cake. I’m not a Harry Potter fan, but everything was so well created that it’s a shame not to participate. I …
