After some unplanned hiatus, it’s time to get back to this little corner. I’ve missed so much sitting down to write about something that’s been on my mind. And, while I was away, I didn’t stop reading. Which means I have a few book reviews to come. Today, I’m focusing on classic sci-fi. No, it’s not Dune. I’m still making my way through that one at turtle speed. It’s 2001 Space Odyssey and 2010 Space Odyssey 2. While this was my second time reading 2001, I never got to write a review. Not all the books I read I write a review. Sometimes, a book is nice, but I don’t have enough to say about it to write a full post. And 2010 was heading in the same direction until it wasn’t. And so, I have some thoughts about reading 2001, watching the movie and then reading 2010. 2001: A …
From the author of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series comes her recent standalone thriller Five Survive. Holly Jackson has become an author for me to keep an eye out for since I read AGGGTM. I haven’t finished that series, but I enjoyed the first book so much I’m reading everything she writes. So when I saw her newest book, I didn’t think twice. I wanted to read it. Eight hours. Six friends. One sniper. It was everything I needed to know. Title: Five Survive Author: Holly Jackson Publication year: 2022 Length: 10 hours 31 minutes Genre: Mystery, Thriller, YA Pace: Fast Story focus: Character & Plot Red and her friends are taking an RV for a road trip for spring break. Things are going as fine as they can be with six people cramped in a small space until they take a wrong turn in an isolated area …
If you are reading this, I’m hoping you have also read We Were Liars by E Lockhart. If not, run like the wind to my spoiler-free review before it’s too late. Or proceed and spoil yourself. Either way, I’m not holding back because I had way too much fun working on this post. I’m diving deeply into the story and answering the question once and for all: were the Liars ghosts or hallucinations? When I finished reading We Were Liars for the first time, I wanted to read it again to see everything I missed and if there was any “proof” of what the Liars were. That reread took 5 years to come, but it’s here. So I opened the book with a pencil in hand and underlined anything and everything I saw relevant to the plot, the characters, and the Liars. In my original review (no longer published), I …
From time to time, I do find a TV series or a mini-series that sparks my interest. And if I’m lucky enough, I want to talk about it. One of the latest additions to the Netflix catalogue is the mini-series Bodies. The premise is straight up my cup of tea. Four crimes. Four time periods. Same body. It’s time travel story time, y’all! I love time travel stories, but I’m very specific about how I like time travel to work. I even have a post all about that. And Bodies left the story in the perfect place to be exactly what I wanted. While the end of the story is wrapped up, it still leaves room for the time travel plot to fit into my plot. And I was so incredibly happy and excited to have a story that hit the right spot, and now I can gush all about …

For any fan of mystery thrillers, Gone Girl is probably not a foreign title. And for mystery readers, the name Gillian Flynn is very well-regarded. For the longest time, I had no idea this book and movie existed, until I heard it be pitched as having the best plot twist. So, did I read the book straight away? No, I saw the movie. And I’m glad I did. Because if I hadn’t, I don’t think I would have finished reading the book. Whether TikTok book recommendations are good or not, one thing is for sure: they are everywhere. I don’t have TikTok, and even I know what books are blowing up there. While this is nowhere a testament to the quality of TikTok books, I appreciate it whenever I discover new books. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is one of them. A mystery YA series full of puzzles, riddles and a treasure hunt feeling with an inheritance on the line. I was not planning on rewriting a review for We Were Liars by E Lockhart. I read this book five years ago, loved it, and obviously, I had to write a review and post it here on the blog. And now, as I finish reading that review, I have a question: what is that girl talking about? Memory is a funny thing. I could swear to you what I thought about We Were Liars before rereading it was the same thoughts I had when I finished it. Turns out, it wasn’t. And that is quite fitting for this book, where nothing is as it seems. I wasn’t planning on writing another review. I decided to reread it now to help me get out of a reading slump and to decide once and for all if the spoiler was actually a spoiler or a spoiler. Although, I feel like I can …
