Vacation is over. Summer months are done. I’m ready for autumn to begin ( I was also ready by July, but that was just me). I’m still excited to write these HRCYED updates. Slowly but surely, I’m making some progress and having a good time with the books that I’m reading. And with autumn starting, the sweater weather upon us, the rainy afternoons… I can smell the cosiness in the air, and the books are thrilled to be picked up. New HRCYED month, new book. I started Insurgent by Veronica Roth straight away. If I wanted to keep up with my plan to reread the whole series before the newest member of the Divergent family arrives, I had to read it soon. HRCYED round 3, let’s go!! Yeah! I’m so hyped! Too hyped if you ask me. After I took a break from participating in the Hardest Reading Challenge You’ve Ever Done, I wasn’t planning on returning to it. But then I watched the announcement video. This year’s theme is customisation, and while my toxic trait is to believe I can totally read over 100 books in a year when I can barely go past 50, if I’m presented with an option to succeed while reading less, then count me in. If my TBR numbers don’t change, am I even moving towards shortening my TBR? This very laid-back challenge has concluded its fourth year. Like, I can’t believe that 4 years ago I read 9 or 10 books in June, felt so good about it that I decided I wanted to take that energy for the rest of the year and shrink down my TBR. To be honest, I really want to repeat a month like that again. I know it was really hard and I did nothing else with my free time apart from reading, but man, it felt good afterwards to reach a milestone I never thought possible. New Year, same challenge. It’s the Hardest Reading Challenge! December wasn’t as packed with reading as I was anticipating. It’s that time of year that quickly slips through the cracks, and once we realise it, it’s Christmas, then New Year, and December is over. It also doesn’t help when these holidays fall in the middle of the week. It was a very confusing time. But we are now in a new year, which means there is a lot more reading to do. The Books Towards the middle of the month, before all the mayhem started with the holidays, I did the 24-hour challenge. The hardest part was to read the 300-page book. I started with one by a Portuguese author é urgente amar (it’s urgent to love) by Pedro Chagas Freitas, and I was not enjoying it. I thought about dropping it and trying to read something else. November seems to me like a month full of books, although I didn’t read much. It was the month I read the least so far. However, I’m planning a big reading month for December, so I’m not sad this will be a shorter post. Sometimes, we need to slow down and let things be. The Books I started so many books, and yet I finished barely anything. From Flowers for Algernon, The Voice Upstairs, The Cruise Ship Lost My Daughter and a reread of Annihilation. I can’t promise I’ll finish them all in December, but eventually I will. Of the books I did finish, one was by a local author, Nem Todas as Baleias Voam by Afonso Cruz. While this book isn’t translated into English, I’ll try to tell you what it’s about. I didn’t know much about it when I picked it up. It was recommended by a friend …
