March Wrap-Up

I’m sorry for what it’s coming next. In honour of today’s celebrations, I have to say this. This year, Easter must be a joke! Ok, I’m done. So sorry about this, let’s move on. Another month has ended, so it’s time to do an overall of all the books I read, bought, and discover.

Wrap-up

I’m so surprised with myself this month. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been only complaining about how I was in a reading slump, and how I wasn’t in the mood to read. Well, forget about it. In March I read 5 books. Zoe Herdt, from the Youtube channel Readbyzoe, kicked off this month hosting a 24 hours readathon. I couldn’t miss out this opportunity once again, and since Joanna Bolouri was releasing her new book, my plans were simple, reading The List and Relight My Fire. Even that was overly ambitious for me. I know is not much but I’m a slow reader, and if I get more than 30 pages an hour is great. Even though I couldn’t finish both books in one day, I took care of it in the next couple of days. I have a review for both of them if you want to know more (The List review and Relight My Fire review).

Back in February, I started reading The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan and only this month I had the opportunity to finish it. It was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It was beautiful, whimsical, and I completely fell in love with the writing. Ruth made me fell it was Spring, Summer, Autumn and even Christmas. I could smell the roses in the garden as if I was actually outside smelling them. Then by chance, I found a book similar to it. Midnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson is also a beautiful book to read. This one didn’t make me smell anything (thank god or else I would be filling my lungs with dirt), but the writing and the topics it deals with, it’s nicely done. I’m a sucker for stories told from different time periods, and this one was really immersive.

To top off the month, I read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and I only have one thing to say. HOW DIDN’T I START THIS BOOK SOONER???!!!! It’s so great! It’s amazing! For a gamer/nerd/computer-geek, this book is perfect. Actually, it’s almost perfect, to reach that goal the references had to be from the 90s or the early 00s. I wasn’t even born in the 80s, so most of the references I had to google them. Sadly (for me) I never played an arcade game in a real machine, although I’ve played remakes of a couple of those games. But that wasn’t enough for me to recognize all games, so even after googling them, I still had no idea what those game were. How can I call myself a gamer when I don’t even know the ones that inspired the games of today?!

Note: Yesterday, I went see the movie. OMG, IT WAS AWESOME!! And the best part it’s filled with games, movies and even cartoon references that everyone can recognize from the pop culture of the past few years and not only 80s references.

Haul

If you follow me on Instagram (direct link on the bottom of this post also) I did a little haul. This month I received my first Book Depository order of the year – happy dance – and I went book shopping. My TBR shelf is bigger than ever and I might need help. Since I’ve already talked about last month of The Saturday Night Supper Club and The Affair, I’m changing the spotlight for the others. Obviously, Relight My Fire was my first purchase of the month, it was also my first kindle book and now I’m obsessed with the daily deals, which are a constant threat to my bank account. Midnight at the Electric was also a kindle deal. Since I’ve heard about this book last year when it was published I was aware of it. Once it was on sale, I couldn’t let the opportunity get away. The same thing happened with Love & Other Train Wrecks by Leah Konen, although right now I need to put it on hold since I have other books to read first.

In the past weekend, I had a few bucks put aside and instead of upgrading my wardrobe I went to spend it all in books. I bought Ready Player One since the movie came out this week and I wanted to go to see it, also Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (the Portuguese cover is gorgeous), and The Vegetarian by Han Kang. Then I was surprised with a little bargain section outside of the bookstore so I also bought The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, which is my first book written by her.

Caught on my radar

Since I’ve just published my most anticipated books for April to June any of those are perfect for this section of the post. Although, I’ve already talked enough about them so I’m not going to repeat myself. Therefore, I’m left with Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi. I don’t know how I’ve missed out on this book. It was released a few days ago and it follows a girl and a boy who awkwardly cross paths and somehow ended up exchange numbers. From that moment on they start talking, telling each other their secrets and anxieties without the awkwardness of talking face to face. Now I’m curious how everything is going to play out after this.

TBR

The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth as the release date due April 10, so I have to reread Carve The Mark. The last thing I want is to receive my copy of the book, start reading, and not remembering half of the things that happened. Once both books are read, and if I have time left in the month, The Saturday Night Supper Club by Carla Laureano is up next on the list. This book was released in February and I’m so excited to pick it up. Now I just need to fight the urge to set it aside until it’s the perfect time to read, something that doesn’t exist. Other than that, any book that I bought this month I’m also excited to read, so no matter what my mood tells me to choose, it will be great.
