March Wrap-Up

I am so confused! March is already over and it felt so short and at the same time so long. I guess this was a big month for me, and unfortunately, the number of books I read didn’t match its length. Luckily, I’ve been in such a great reading mood that will help me a lot in April. I want to spend all my time reading, but I do fill very guilty to spend a lot of time reading instead of doing something productive. It’s the ultimate struggle!! I just hope I can take advantage of this mood and shorten my unread pile of books.

Wrap-Up

I finished two books this month that I didn’t even remember. Otherworld by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller was a great book to melt my geek heart. It wasn’t as amazing as Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, but I had a blast reading it. I want to pick up the next and final book in the series Otherearth, that came out last year, not sure when I’ll be doing that, but I will.

Then I also finished Sunburn by Laura Lippman, one of my most anticipated books of last year and sadly, it wasn’t a five-star. I loved the main character, the twists and turns, all the secrets, everything in the story was great, although it was a slow burn – get it sunburn, slow burn *attempting to be funny*. When it comes to mysteries, I like my book to have a fast paste, to keep me turning pages until there aren’t more to turn. The story is character driven, and even though it made me fall in love with Polly (the main character), it was also a little dull.

Haul

I bought two books this month and received in the mail another three that I’ve bought at the end of February, and I’m very excited to read them all. First off, The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes by Ruth Hogan is on the top of my TBR pile. Since I read The Keeper of Lost Things I wanted to read everything the author would put out. She’s already releasing her third book and I need to get on top of that.

I also found Genuine Fraud by E Lockhart at a great price and I couldn’t resist. She is the author of We Were Liars, and even though this book doesn’t have as good reviews as her first book, I still want to read it. I loved how she handles all the mystery and I don’t believe I will dislike this book.

Then I bought, The Astonishing Colour of After by Emily XR Pan. It’s a magical realism story adored by many, but I don’t know if I’m going to like it or not. Since it’s a genre I’m not used to, I don’t know what to think about it, although the cover is sooo pretty I couldn’t leave it behind!

The last two books are the ones I actually bought this month. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is on everyone’s mouth and after the blow up that Daisy Jones and the Six had I really need to read something by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Since I saw the new 10th-anniversary edition of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins I knew it was my opportunity to finally dive into this trilogy. For a long time, it wasn’t on my plans to read it, but I’ve changed my mind, and I want to know what all the buzz is about.

Currently Reading

I might not be fast to finish books but I’m the quickest to start new books! Once I finished Sunburn, I was indecisive to what to pick up next, so I tried out the first chapter of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I have to say that Carry On didn’t grab me at all which is sad, but Eleanor was a complete match! As excited as I was I didn’t read that much, and so far I’m enjoying it a lot.

Then I felt that I needed some mystery book to get me on my toes, and I had to pick up Genuine Fraud by E Lockhart. I’ve been completely addicted to it. I have two possible endings for this story already, and I think I still might be wrong, but even if I’m right I don’t care, I’m loving to discover this new characters and to be back reading an E Lockhart book.

The 24 Hours Readathon by Zoe: Gratitude Edition happened on the last Saturday of March, and I completely forgot about it. The point of this readathon is to read books we are thankful for, and I knew I had to read The French Gardener by Santa Montefiore, it was the book that got me into reading, it was the first one I fell in love with, and it has been almost 4 years since I last read it.

No matter what readathon I’m taking part of (either if it’s 24 hours, 48 hours, a whole week, a whole month, or any other time period), Saturday is the worst day for me. Yet, I started reading a book with only 10 hours left. It was sunny, warm, and a great Spring afternoon, so I set my chair outside and read for a bit. I knew that I wasn’t going to finish it on Saturday, so I extended until Sunday… Turns out I still have to finish it! *facepalm*

In conclusion, I managed to add another book to my bedside table, having now 3 books to finish in April. Hopefully, neither of them will take me the whole month to read. I also just discovered the Magical Readathon hosted by Book Roast. This readathon runs for the entire month of April and it’s surrounded by the OWLs exams from Harry Potter world. If you already don’t know, I’m not a fan of Harry Potter although there is so much work into creating such fun experience that I couldn’t let this opportunity pass by. There are 18 careers and each one of them has specific exams to do in order to succeed, and each exam is a prompt for a book. So, in the end, I don’t need to read anything Harry Potter related or even fantasy related. Now I only have to decide on my career and then I will know what books I’m going to pick up after finishing everything I started in March.
