November Wrap-Up

I feel like November completely slipt away between my fingers. This was a really odd month, and I don’t understand how are we already in December. I guess life just happened and the brain was put on hold. All the books I was planning on reading now seem like a joke that I told myself in October. I barely picked a book on my spare time, I was constantly thinking I had other things to do, and I couldn’t spend time reading. So here we are.

Wrap-Up

I don’t even know what to do with Snow Flower and The Secret Fan anymore. I started this book in September, read about 30 pages, didn’t pick it up in October nor November. I was enjoying the book it was just taking me too long to read a single page because I had to look up what every other word meant. The book is mostly written in formal English, and since I’m not that fluent, I have to take a break here and there to look up in the dictionary. Therefore, what would usually take me about an hour to read, I read it in 3 or 4 hours. All these breaks despite being educational are also a drag, and instead of making me want to pick up the book it has the opposite effect. And as long as I’m reading something else that I don’t feel any need to keep looking up words, I will choose them over Lisa See‘s book.

November was really a bad reading month, I had also started The Affair by Amanda Broke at the end of October and didn’t touch it until last week. But what the most annoying part is that I’m not reading because life is getting in the way. The book is soooo intriguing, and, unfortunately, I’m prioritising other things over reading – aka Hallmark Christmas movies. So again, I have to leave this book to December, even though I don’t see a bright future for that month either.

Although I did read something!! *raises hands in the air as a sign of victory*

I wanted to read The Truth and Other Lies by Sascha Arango since the moment I bought it. I was so excited when I picked it up, I thought I was going to finish it in a second, turns out with small books I have the tendency to take longer to finish. The story itself is very compelling, Henry as lied his whole life to get what he wants. When his mistress gets pregnant that can jeopardize the perfect life he as created, so the affair needs to stop. In his twisted ways, Henry is going to try and mend his life to the peacefulness of before without falling out as the bad guy. Despite this great plot, it felt like I was reading a lot but the story wasn’t evolving at all, it made the book kind of boring, and that was definitely a letdown.

Haul

For the first time, I took advantage of the Black Friday to buy books instead of The Sims 4 games I usually buy. It was so stressful! I was keeping my eyes on two bookshops, and if that wasn’t enough work, one of the bookshops actually did differents discounts between the online and the IRL shop. Bottom line, I bought a total of 5 books when I didn’t want to spend more than 20€. But there were some sweet sweet deals that I couldn’t miss out. So far, I only have with me two of the five books – the ones I’m going to haul today – and I’ll leave the other three for next month when I actually have the copies.

I already read one book by Lars Kepler, and I do pretend to read more, so I try to keep an eye sharp for any cheap editions. Funny story: every Lars Kepler book that I currently own were bought in discount prices or in second hand, I haven’t paid the full price of their books not even once. As you can probably tell, I bought another Lars Kepler book, The Sandman, the fourth book in the Joona Linna series. On Goodreads, this book actually has a bigger rating than The Nightmare (the book I read, you can find my review here), and since I had my problems with that book, hopefully, this can mean the series gets better with time.

The other book that I bought I wasn’t exactly planning on buying it. I didn’t want to spend too much money since I was going to pay the full price of the book, and after looking around, I spotted The Magic Misfits by Neal Patrick Harris. Since he released this book series, I was curious to see if he could bring his personality to the story. This book is a middle grade about magicians and after reading the introduction, I was having the time of my life. I love adult novels, YA, romance, drama, murder, thriller, but sometimes is great to feel like a kid again, worry about nothing and just enjoy a story as innocently as possible.

And that is it for this month. As in contrast for the last 2000 words Wrap-Up, this one is a little bit shorter. I’m a little sad that I came out from November with only one book read instead of three. October was so great, and I was in an amazing mood. Hopefully, with a little Christmas music in the background, I can find my reading mood again.
