Christmas is fast approaching, and I couldn’t let the season slide without a little DIY to kick in the spirit! I think it was mid-September when I started to brainstorm for new projects and between my mindless scavenge on Pinterest, I decided to make a Pompom Christmas Tree and put it on a canvas. The process is really simple and the only thing that spends more time is making all the pompoms, but nothing like watching your favourite Christmas movie or watch the new Hallmark Christmas movies while you wrap yarn – I’ve been binge-watching the whole Aurora Teagarden mysteries movies. Usually, when I brainstorming ideas, they tend to come in pairs. The first one, I already posted last month, I’m talking about the Record Player Stand. I decided to buy wood crates and get creative with them. I was thinking to do a post like “two supplies and multiple possibilities” or something close to that. But when I started working on the first project, I decided it would be better to separate both ideas. With this in mind, both projects are somewhat similar. However, I still tried to come up with something I never did before.

When it comes to holding to ideas, I’m the worst! I can have everything planned out, start working on it, and then something gets in the way. Whatever the reason is, over the time I’ve abandoned so many projects. Some were good, others weren’t, and some are already in the garbage. Despite not being great at finishing what I start, I usually like to “collect” things, so I have a few unfinished projects stored away. And for what?? Turns out it’s for posts like this.

Do you know those moments, when you need something and the Universe makes you cross path with a solution? Well, this is one of those moments. I have a record player, and my biggest problem is knowing where to put it. So I was in the hunt for a good stand. I wanted something simple, not too expensive, and with a place to store my vinyl, nothing else. Despite my exquisite taste which only allows me to buy what I fall in love the first moment I lay my eyes on, I was open to suggestions. And then I saw a DIY with wooden crates in the Wayfair website, almost made on purpose just for me. And that’s when I decided I was going to make a record player stand for myself.

Today is officially the first day of Winter. Even though, we start to celebrate it sooner thanks to Christmas. And since we are 3 days away from Christmas Eve, I think is starting to becoming a bit later for making DIYs especially for this joyful season. So I came up with a winter DIY. It still great to use to decorate the table, but the idea is to use it long before Christmas. It’s a wintery decoration, you don’t have to put down after the 25th. The last time I did coasters was autumn themed and this time I decided to make the same but with winter. Slowly this is becoming seasonal coasters series and if so I already have an idea for spring. I was planning on doing a few giant paper stars to put up on my grey wall to give some fun to the room. I didn’t want to write a post about it since it’s just folding a piece of paper and attach it to the wall. But then I didn’t get around to doing it. It wasn’t a priority and it got pushed away to the back. Although I didn’t want to spend this year without doing a few of these stars. Then I remembered I had to do some napkin rings since my parents are hosting Christmas at our house. What if I merged both ideas? And so it was born star napkin rings. I’ve always liked miniatures, but there is something in tiny paper Christmas villages that make them so sweet and adorable. For the past two years, I’ve been dribbling over Pinterest to thousands of pictures of them and wishing to make some. Today is the day! Some people go full on dedicated to making them beautiful and incredibly detailed which is so worth the effort, although I just wanted to save time and make them as simple as I could without losing the cuteness. I got mostly inspired by Delia Creates advent houses since they are so adorable and the proportions seem exactly how I want. When it comes create these type of things, the proportions and the placement of the windows and doors are what creates the harmony and makes us sight on how adorable they are. I’ve been so excited to share this DIY with you. This was one of my first Christmas ideas for this year and I’ve been testing different options. Firstly this craft joins two types of garlands one horizontal and one vertical. Next, is a mixture of texture, colour and size turning something mundane into something vibrant. And lastly, is so easy to make! I think it looks so nice that I’m for sure going to do a couple more in different shades to switch off after Christmas. I’ve tried sewing the stars for a more lasting finish, and even though, it’s easy since the stars have different colours you can’t use one string colour that can pass by undetected from all the stars. I tested with red string and although it was perfect on the red stars it didn’t work for the rest, causing the loss of the effect of a …

When it comes to patterns and colours I’m really fussy and when I’m making stuff I’m even fussier. I like everything to be perfect or, at least, as neat as possible. Clean cuts and perfect fits are my heavens and so when I was wrapping my fake Christmas gifts I also wanted to add some boxes with lids to the mixture. But since I just ended up switching the colour of the box, it wasn’t any “magical” transformation from what appears to be a closed box into one that you could reuse. The box was made to be reused from the start. So I wasn’t creating something new, I was just giving it a new clean face. Last year, I manage to make a snowman between all the university madness by the end of the semester. It actually was in the Christmas tree but it was everything so rushed and stressful I didn’t even bother to do a proper blog post about it. Although this year is different and today is time for me to give to you my Snowman DIY. I experimented with different cover material that could give a similar texture to snow. Unfortunately, since it’s on a small scale it always ended up weird looking and nothing like I wanted. I try to cover it with fake snow (shredded styrofoam), cotton, and even the leftovers of a pom pom. But nothing worked. I love to see a Christmas tree fully decorated, but the best part is the presents underneath. If a tree doesn’t have presents it feels naked to me. So I thought about wrapping a few empty boxes. Although, it will take so much space in the attic afterwards – which I can’t complain about but still. As a lightning streak, I thought what if the boxes weren’t closed? What if I wrap them and somehow leave one side open to be able to use the box later for storage? This idea was inspired by Studio DIY and the post in 2015 of the Emoji Gift Wrap. There are so many ideas on how you can make beautiful boxes to gift to someone but no ones say you are obligated to actually give them.
