To all my comedy series that got cancelled

Once again I’m diving into the TV series that unfortunately have been cancelled. This time, it’s all about the comedies! And who doesn’t like a good laugh?! A lot of people do, reason why most of the series I’m going to mention have more than 3 seasons. I divided the post into two sections because some of these series were cancelled before the final season, which means it got some sort of ending, instead of leaving it on a cliffhanger – thank you!

-TV series that got their “ending”

Chuck (2007-2012)

I went really dip into the closet to find this one! When I saw Chuck it was back then when you actually needed a DVR to record manually the TV so you wouldn’t miss out on an episode – now I feel old! Sadly, I’m sure I missed a few episodes between all the seasons. Although if I’m not mistaken I saw the final episode. I don’t remember much since it has been so long, but I do have a memory of a conclusion to the story. What I can vividly remember is having so much fun! Chuck was the typical nerd, not good talking to girls, and suddenly he’s a secret agent. The entire cast was amazing, always getting into some sort of trouble, and pulling out some good laughs! Great! Now I want to watch Chuck again!!

Castle (2009-2016)

My ultimate-all-time-and-all-eternity-favourite TV series in the world. I still get a bit nostalgic thinking that I won’t hear Castle’s new jokes or unbelievable theories even after all these years. I have to say though that the show, in the beginning, was way more fun then it was in the last season. However, in the middle of all the seriousness and story development, they still found time for an episode once in a while to make you laugh. If I see Castle on the TV, I have to stop to watch it and say the lines at the same as the characters. At this point, I probably already saw the first 3 seasons at least 5 times, and I will keep on watching them until I’m dead, and that’s how much I like it!

How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)

I have a full review of HIMYM here on the blog about my thoughts on the ending, and it’s one of those endings that kind of get rushed and are cooked last minute to tide up everything to give a conclusion to the story. I can’t deny that this story has an ending – Chuck and Castle have them too – but the ending still feels rushed. The show survived for 9 seasons it was ready to be ended but not in such an extended and important season that was season 9. I actually don’t mind who Ted ends up with, I just think that the Mother should have had at least half a season dedicated to their relationship. Everything was hurried to get every piece of the story in there without giving to much attention. We don’t even have time to get sad on the saddest moment of the entire show! So every time I re-watch it, the ninth season always fills me with mixed feelings – but I still cry on the last episode like it’s the first time.

-TV series that unfortunately didn’t get an ending

Dr Ken (2015-2017)

I never understood why this show was cancelled. It didn’t have dark humour or mockery, it had an openly gay couple, it talked about family and friendship problems with light humour. It was a great show! Even the “bad guy” turned out to be an okay guy. So I really don’t get what was the problem with this show. The first time I fell in love with Ken Jeong was in The Hangover movies, and when I saw he was doing a TV series I jumped right on board. He has proved to be a versatile comedian from a darker humour to a light funny one, and Dr Ken was that cute, funny, and not offensive at all. But more than the humour was the kind of life lessons every episode had. So the series was exploring life problems while being funny. It was such a happy and heartwarming series that sadly ended too soon.

The Mick (2017-2018)

As I’m trying to refresh my memory to remember the comedy shows I’ve seen over the years, I discover another heartbreaking cancellation. When I saw the final episode of season 2, I was excited to see what was going to come out of that. It was a big change something that couldn’t be healed from one episode to another. And now I find out that they actually cancelled it! At the worst. possible. moment. Worst than abruptly finishing a series without an ending is to leave it on a sad cliffhanger. But I do realise that The Mick isn’t for everybody, I mean the protagonist is a gambler, a drug and alcohol abuser, and her parenting skill can and should be questioned. She’s nowhere near being a good character but neither is the rest of the cast. Every single one of them has questionable moral ideas and personalities that make them dislikeable characters, but that’s what makes it all funny. They are so bad that karma is always biting them in the ass.

2 Broke Girls (2011-2017)

My heart still bleeds every time I think that I won’t be seeing any new Max and Caroline’s adventures. Season 6 ended in such an exciting episode for Max. For the first time, that girl was having the best moment of her life, but it got cancelled. Despite funny, this show had a few “problems” with the humour it held. Max has a very mischievous and dark humour most of the times supported by stereotypes and not everyone enjoys that. Possible a reason why it was cancelled. But I don’t mind it, I always saw it for what it is a joke and I always will. This series wasn’t about smart humour or funny jokes, Max was a pessimist and she would always take the quicker route for a joke, most of the times based on stereotypes. Still, she is my spirit animal, I love her boldness and unapologetic behaviour, she is that way, deal with it. And Caroline started off as the blond rich girl that couldn’t do anything and changed to a crazy savage girl. They both mix up so well, they are the perfect pair and they never failed to make me laugh. At this point I’ve seen all the seasons at least 3 times, I know everything that happens on each episode but I still find it funny, I still laugh like its the first time.
